This department is charged with the responsibilities of firefighting operations and fire prevention within the City and its extra-territorial jurisdiction and is also responsible for mutual aid assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Chartered in 1963, founded several years before, this organization has proudly served the citizens of Richwood and surrounding areas for 40+ years. This community has a population of just over 3000, and approximately 500 county residents that our department serves. The citizens of both city and county jurisdictions have always been a great source of support for this organization’s activities. Our department has memberships in the Brazoria County Firefighter’s Association, the Brazoria County Fire Chief’s Association, and State Firemen’s & Fire Marshals’ Association.
The Richwood Volunteer Fire Department at this time has 16 members and still needs more. The Richwood Fire Department is always looking for those that have the desire to serve. If you are interested in serving your community, please come the station and get involved. Our department meets every Thursday at 7pm.
Richwood Volunteer Fire Department has two pumpers, a tanker, an equipment truck and a command vehicle. RVFD purchased a new fire truck last year with aide from the Texas Forestry Service. Our department has 80+ calls a year.
Outside of providing Fire Protection for the City of Richwood, we interact with the community. Richwood Fire Department is active during Fire Prevention week with local schools and day cares around the community. Richwood Fire Department participates in Fund Raisers for Polk and Our Lady Queen of Peace. Our Fire Department also assists Polk in their annual Fall Fun Run. Our Fire Department participates in the annual Salute to First Responders, held at MSR Race Track.
